Something that I enjoy very much is making candies for the holidays. I like to give them as gifts. Most people do not like to take the time to make real homemade treats so the candies are always welcomed gifts. All the things that I need for my candies can be found at the store that sells cake decorating supplies.

When I first started making candies I would get my melting chocolates from a local chocolate store. I knew a woman that worked there so she was able to order the supplies that I needed. The store went under new management and he stated that I could no longer buy the chocolate. I then bought chocolate from the bakery, but it was not very good quality.

I did not want to give up on my candy making but I also did not have the time or experience to try to create my one chocolate for dipping. My sister told me that I should try the store where she buys her cake decorating supplies. She said that they have a section dedicated to making candies.

Sometimes I feel that other people’s new ideas for parties are just great. For me it doesn’t seem simple to come up with something interesting. It’s almost time again to plan a birthday party for my husband and I am desperately looking for some fresh ideas. Going through entertaining cookbooks and flashy magazines is my first start.

There were several cake decorating ideas that looked interesting. Some of the recipes were for less traditional desserts. I had several magazines and cookbooks spread on my kitchen counter when my mother stopped over. I explained that I was looking for cake decorating ideas for my husband’s birthday.

My mom’s advice was that I should keep things simple. My mother has always been a great party giver so her advice was important to me. She told me that through the years that she has noticed that the simpler the party the more people seemed to enjoy themselves. She found that if she planned activities around a party theme it would disrupt people visiting with each other. Also she would not enjoy the party because she would be trying to get people involved in activities.
