Pizza Boxes All Over The Place!

Monday, August 28th, 2006

Giving your children a good education and helping them in their struggle to grow up does not end when they are twelve! Just read this funny story about our son, who went off to college…

My son moved to off campus housing this year to save money and to share a rental house with some of his friends. We helped him move in at the end of the summer. The rental was a shared housing situation that is common in most college communities. This house had two bedrooms on the main level with a bath, living room and kitchen. The upper level had two bedrooms and a bath as well as a sitting area.

The sitting area had two desks as well as a futon for overnight guests. Two of the renters had moved in the day before him so when we arrived there were pizza boxes on the coffee table in the living room. One of the young men quickly picked up the pizza boxes and threw them away when he saw that my husband and I were along to help with the move.

Our society changes in a rapid pace. Who on earth could imagine in the sixties that a few decades later you could easily order some fresh steaks just from the comfort of your own home? Why would anyone order a steak off of the Internet? A better question is why wouldn’t you? Who wouldn’t want a high quality steak at a discounted price, in perfectly good and tasty condition?

You might be wondering if you’ll receive a fresh piece of beef in a cardboard box delivered to your door. No, steaks online are shipped in an insulated reusable cooler with plenty of dry ice. This ensures your steak will arrive frozen and in perfect condition.

What are the advantages of purchasing your main entrée online? Not only will you get a high quality steak shipped to your front door, you can also save from 25%-63% off of regular in-store prices. Grandma’s Picnic Recipes Collection

Friday, August 18th, 2006

Picnic recipes always make me think about my grandma. I was still a kid when we were having those traditional summer picnic afternoons. Well, some things seem to have eternal youth…. My daughter and her husband were married 11 months ago. They both had significant debt when they got married. They are both working full time and are making good salaries, however they do not have extra cash on hand for entertainment. My daughter stopped over to ask if I had any suggestions of what they could do for their anniversary that would be fun, yet inexpensive.

I told her that one of the things that her father and I used to do when we were first married was to go on picnics. I have several picnic recipes that are fun and romantic. My daughter thought this was a great idea. They have several spots by area lakes, where they like to go for hikes. My daughter asked if I could share some of the picnic recipes with her, so she could make them a nice dinner.

Rehearsal Dinner

Sunday, August 13th, 2006

A wedding means always a great deal of stress to for the people involved. Therefore it is of the utmost importance to prepare the happening in a calm and serious way. There are so many preparations, expenses and anxieties that go along with planning a wedding. For some couples they are so consumed with planning the event and trying to get details right that there is little time to enjoy the time. When my niece was planning her wedding she had three bridal showers to attend, reception plans to make and was trying to find a location for the rehearsal dinner.

The third bridal shower was scheduled at my home. I am her godmother so I had wanted to do something special for her. Several days before the shower we talked on the telephone. She sounded very stressed. I suggested that she come the night before the shower and stay overnight and we would relax and I would help her organize a list of what needed to be done prior to the wedding day. She thought this sounded like a good plan.

Worlds Finest Chocolate

Friday, August 11th, 2006

Unless you live in Belgium you probably keep looking after the worlds finest chocolate… you already guess that this is not an article about diet stuff. So, I was having a contest with my friend the other day, where we were trying to decide what were the worlds finest chocolate bars. Apparently, there is a whole subculture which revolves around trying to find the worlds finest chocolates. They are every bit as bad as beer fans, only often fatter, with worse teeth from all of that chocolate. This friend has been all over the world – and I mean literally all over the world – looking for the worlds finest chocolate bars.

Some chocolate factories, like this one in Maine which he particularly enjoys, are the candy equivalent of micro brews, putting out small caches of what they insist is the worlds finest chocolate for true local fans. Others of them make their candy in big batches, but still insist that they make the best chocolate in the world. I guess it is like my friend Carole said. For anything that there is out there, you are almost guaranteed that there is a community of people who are into it to an unhealthy level.

Potato Salad

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

Are you looking for a big hit in an open house party? Don’t make it complicated and please all the visitors with a real simple delicious treat. Last week I was helping my sister-in-law prepare for her son’s graduation party. The party was going to be an open house from 3:00pm to 9:00pm on the Saturday after graduation. We were preparing the food the day before. She had potatoes and eggs boiled for a potato salad. She asked me if I would make the potato salad while she made several other side dishes.

I started peeling the 10 pounds of potatoes that she had cooked. After an hour of working on the salad I had peeled and diced the potatoes and had peeled the eggs. As I started chopping the eggs I mentioned to my sister-in-law that it was taking me forever to make the salad. She laughed and said that was why she did not want to make it. Once I had the eggs chopped I still had to dice onions and celery, as well as make the dressing. By the time the salad was done two hours had passed. Just as I was finishing the salad my brother-in-law arrived home. His first comment was that there was not going to be enough potato salad.

Omaha Steaks

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006

Are you looking for a great steak with taste and flavor? There are as many different tastes as there are people around, that’s for sure, but one thing is undisputed… There is nothing better than an Omaha steak, with all of the traditional sides and fixings. If you have never had the pleasure of experiencing the savory flavor and texture of an Omaha steak, then you have never had a truly exquisite piece of meat.

Omaha steak comes from Midwestern beef cattle from in and around the Omaha area, that are grain fed, processed, packaged, and transported all around the United States and internationally. Beef from the Midwest is truly the best when compared to beef from other parts of the country. It is tender and full of flavor all on it’s own, in fact, the use of steak sauce or other seasonings should be kept to a minimum so that the awesome flavor of the meat isn’t masked. Omaha steak can be used in many mouth watering recipes; it can be paired with seafood, pasta, salad, potatoes, or most any other side dish.

Kitchen Aid Coffee Maker

Sunday, August 6th, 2006

Coffee is only around for some few hundred years, but it seems for the most of us that life depends on it, especially in the morning. Are you relaxing with a hot cup of coffee? Ah, that always hits the spot, doesn’t it? The only problem is we tend to drink too much of the mouth watering caffeinated beverage. What is it about that powerful scent of freshly ground coffee beans? I mean, this can literally lure us in off the street.

How do you think all those coffee houses make all that cash? For decades now, folks across the country have always kept a coffee maker in their home. This of course is to be expected. How else can we enjoy that wonderful blend on a whim or immediately at sunrise? The fact is we want to have coffee when ever we please and there’s no two ways about it. What is your favorite caffeinated beverage? Well, the good news is that these days there is a wide spectrum of coffee makers to choose from. One of the nicer ones being the kitchen aid coffee maker.

When I think about picnics, I always remember sunny summer days with uncle Jeff and aunt Jessie at the river side… But when was the last time you and the family took some quality time? Whether you prefer a soft blanket or a picnic table, that work-free day is sure to be a blessing. Now, do you have all the right picnic supplies? White Zinfandel

Friday, August 4th, 2006

What is your favorite white wine? Many people prefer white zinfandel because of its fruity nature and generous appeal. The wine is referred to as “white” and many people think that this is a mistake because of its pink hue. However, this is really the correct description of the product. It is definitely not a blush because the process of making the final product is different in a white zinfandel than in a blush wine.

The zinfandel grape is actually red and it commonly produces a red wine as its final product. The makers of white zinfandel change the wine-making strategy a little bit in the process of creating the pink-colored favorite among mainstream wine drinkers. The skins of the grape hold the color. When the skins are left in during the fermentation process, the end result is a red-colored beverage.
