You can not argue about it: the US of A is becoming a country of over weight people. The cure is simple: less calory intake, more calorie spend… A lot of people think that losing weight is difficult, but really the only difficult part about it is the self-control. If you can make some firm rules for yourself and stick with them, the rest of it is easy. Really, weight loss comes down to two things: what you eat, and how you exercise.

If you use low fat cooking, combined with daily exercise, everything will work out perfectly for you. Although good sensible low fat cooking and exercise will not necessarily lead you to shed pounds at the same rate as using the latest fad dieting will, you will lose weight, and you will keep it off. Low fat diet cooking, using a healthy mix of lean meat, vegetables, grains, and fruits, as well as good portion control, is the surest way to look and feel a great.

Of course, the trick isn’t low fat cooking. The trick is low fat cooking that tastes fantastic. You need to be able to cook a variety of different foods in a more healthy manner than you are used to doing. That means not only learning low fat cooking, but low-fat baking and low fat grilling as well. All of this takes time, effort, and to some degree, money, but it sure is worth it.

If you can use low-fat cooking to create a diet menu that you know that you will like, it will make it so much easier for you to keep the weight off after you lose it. And after all, what is the point to losing weight if you can’t keep it off?no point at all as far as I am concerned!

Of course, if you want to get into the exciting world of low-fat cooking, it helps to have other people to work with. If you are the only one in your house who wants to eat low fat cooking, it will be hard, if not impossible, to succeed. If you live with your family, and they are all being delicious steaks and re-fried beans with added lard every night, there is just simply no way that you’re going to stick with your low-fat diet.

I’ve tried it before, and it does not work. Take my word for it, teamwork is essential for any healthy lifestyle. Whether it is low fat cooking, daily exercise, or a regular sleep and work routine, cooperating with other people will always help and never hurt.

If you read my previous posts, you’ve noticed that I am digging in the dieting fashions! Low carb recipes, low fat cooking and other forms of diets… we all know that our life style is not exactly very healthy. Like everybody I love cookies but I also love good fresh food every day and I try to cook a fresh meal every evening for my kids…

Though fat is a part of our daily nutrition intake, most people are prone to eat an excess amount of fat in their diets. Switching over to low fat cooking can help people reduce the amount of fat they eat, can help maintain a healthy body weight, can help prevent disease and may potentially increase one’s life span.

There are four simple ways that a person can immediately introduce low fat cooking in their diet. These are trimming the fat off meat, switching to low-fat dairy products, using butter or margarine sparingly and changing cooking methods from roasting or frying to steaming or stir-frying. A person should attempt to eat fewer eggs, cheese and other dairy products, and cut down on red meat and chicken. These foods are high in saturated fats and contribute to heart disease.

If people find it difficult to exclude meat from their lives, using low fat cooking techniques can help to promote the removal of fat. A meat-based sauce or stew, for instance, can be cooked a day ahead and stored overnight in the refrigerator, to allow the fat to rise to the top of the dish and solidify for easy removal. Using more vegetables in stews can also help to reduce the amount of fat in the overall dish.

A way to reduce your intake of saturated fats is to substitute olive oil or sunflower oil for butter and tropical oils in low fat cooking. Although these oils have as many calories as saturated oils, they have a different effect on how cholesterol is broken down in your body – a major factor in heart disease.

Certain fish oils are particularly beneficial and contain a class of essential fatty acids known as omega-3 fatty acids. These help to lower cholesterol and reduce the blood’s ability to clog up arteries. As you adopt more and more low fat cooking methods, cooking ocean fish, such as mackerel, herring, tuna, sardines and salmon can all be used for their richness in this type of oil.

The more and more a person’s learns about where there are hidden fats in their daily cooking habits, the more aware they can be about adopting better low fat cooking methods. Trying to avoid things like deep fat frying, excessive amounts of butter or saturated oils in cooking, the fatty skin on all kinds of meat or copious amounts of gravy can help lower cholesterol levels and contribute to all over health.

Having a balanced diet with ample amount of exercise can change your life significantly. The old American diet of roasted meat and potatoes is being gradually replaced by low fat cooking rich in vitamins and unsaturated fats. It seems that people are living longer than they ever have, and this is largely due to our advances in medicine and our emerging knowledge of what we eat and how it affects our bodies.

Low carb diets are hot! Look at Amazon, and you will find numerous books about this type of diets. The same thing happens at Ebay and at your mortar and brick book store. You can’t even buy a newspaper without some new low car diet book is just there on the shelf…

With the success of the Atkins diet, several other low carb diets have emerged onto the market promising quick and effective weight loss. Diets like South Beach, the Sonoma Diet and The Zone are all low carb diets that revolve around the same concept of eating less carbohydrates and more proteins.

The thought behind all of these low carb diets is that we are eating far too many simple carbohydrates such as items high in sugars, as well as “bad” carbohydrates like white breads and pastas. If less simple, or bad, carbohydrates are eaten and there is more consumption of whole grains and proteins, then it is believed that the average person will lose weight.

Most of the low carb diets include an induction phase that allows a minimal amount of carbohydrate intake for a period of about five to fourteen days. This is meant to send the body into ketoacidosis, which burns fat instead of carbohydrates for energy.

Once the induction period is completed, most of the low carb diets allow a dieter to gradually increase the intake of “good” carbohydrates until they reach a plateau in weight loss. The carbohydrate intake must then be decreased until the dieter is losing weight again. If the dieter has reached their goal weight, then he or she can remain at the plateau level of carbohydrate intake for weight maintenance.

Several of these low carb diets provide a great variety of resources through guidebooks and cookbooks. In addition, there are several websites that provide support through message boards, recipe sharing and newsletters updates. Many larger grocery store chains are also carrying foods created by and sold under the names of these low carb diets, making it quite simple to choose foods that fit into the diet one has to decided to follow.

While there has not been any conclusive evidence that these low carb diets are detrimental or dangerous to health, they usually are not recommended by medical professionals as an ideal means of weight loss. Many believe that there should be more variety in diet, and nothing should simply be deemed as “bad” as it could lead to consumers not truly following the concepts of the diet and just cutting out the carbohydrates without any education.

If one decides to follow one of these low carb diets, it is highly recommended to have regular blood tests to check cholesterol levels. As with any diet, it is always best to consult a doctor before beginning.
